The Weak Gelsemium

Let us understand the Gelsemium mind today

It is the quietness with weakness which differentiates Gelsemium from other remedies. The Materia Medica describes the Gels person to be quiet, who wants to be let alone, does not wish to speak, or have anyone near him, even if the person be so silent. We need to differentiate acid remedies here. The acids are weak and indifferent, the weakness is deep, its mental and physical both. In Gels the weakness is mental more than physical. The muscles are intact, but they refuse to obey the will! Yes, this is perfectly portrayed in our Materia Medica!

There are aches – in intensity that is beyond a person’s control. Body ache with mental fatigue. It commonly happens in acute diseases.

Gels has marked nervous sensitivity which is depicted in symptoms like diarrhoea especially while going out. Now, this is important as it starts from mind. Even a healthy person at time feels rumbling and gurgling in abdomen before going for an important meeting.

Gels has fears – fear of falling (Borax), fear of death (Ars), fear of diseases (Ars).

A perfect picture of depression! Due to sun, nervous irritation, too much of brain work. It gives Gels person a setback and he is not able to fight with the nervous weakness he is having.

In chronicity this weakness becomes so deep that a person becomes apathetic and listless. He is too afraid even to fall asleep as he is afraid that it would be difficult for him to wake up in morning.

In nutshell

Weakness (Nervous) + Apathy + Lack of will power + Fears + Thirstlessness = Gelsemium
