Homeopathy for Eczema – Some clinical tips

While discussing regarding role of Homeopathy in Eczema in an online seminar few days back some common consensus came to observation:

  • In cases of Eczema try not to start with anti-psoric medicines in one go. If the indicated remedy itself is an antispsoric, be sure that the symptoms you have taken matches with the medicines to considerable extent.
  • Do consider the role of intercurrent such as
  • Staphylococcinum whenever there is an added bacterial infection.
  • Medorrhinum whenever there is history of opportunistic infections which stays for long.
  • Carcinosin whenever there is history of repeated / recurrent allergic and fungal infections.
  • Local applications do have a role to play. The local application may not always be a medicine, it may be a dietary / non-medicinal in nature such as Olive oil, Petroleum jelly, etc.
  • In homeopathy too, local applications are considered safe as majority of the time we use them occasional, and we are not dependent on them to suppress the disease.
  • There is a difference between palliation and suppression. Broadly if the patient’s state is Status-Quo even after taking medicines for weeks or months together it is palliation, but if the Eczema becomes better and there are affections of other internal organs do consider it as a suppression. For e.g. if a patient takes anti-allergic for Urticaria and Urticaria pops up after stopping it, it is palliation and not suppression.
  • Don’t be in hurry to treat skin symptoms, it takes time. Teach this to patient and their attendants too.
  • Relief in first few visits should be the prime focus of a homeopath. Gradually when we are able to understand the patient we can go ahead and try deep acting indicated remedies.
